This course explores what is now known about the immediate and latent effects of head trauma, whether the trauma is attributed to a single event or the result of multiple insults. The relationship between head trauma and cognitive decline is explained, underscoring the importance of history of head trauma as a component of one’s medical record. Course content describes the prevalence of head trauma as a factor in cognitive decline and inspires careful consideration of this aspect of a patient’s medical history when evaluating symptoms of dementia.
