Prevention of Medical Errors

This program is required for Nurses, Osteopathic Physicians, Nursing Home Administrators, Dietetics/Nutrition, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapists and Mental Health Counselors within every biennial license period, and elective for Certified Nursing Assistants.
This course addresses the annual incidence of fatal medical errors in the United States, most prevalent types of errors, recognition of error-prone health care situations, factors contributing to errors, and strategies to reduce medical errors. Content further addresses the definition of “sentinel event” in various settings, reporting responsibilities, the benefits of root cause analysis processes, and ways in which educating patients and caregivers can help to prevent medical errors.
